ABOUT DR ADAM WALKER

Dr Adam Walker is a Gold Coast-based physiotherapist, clinical researcher, and university lecturer whose professional practice is built around one focused question: how do we help people with knee injuries recover more fully, more confidently, and more reliably than current approaches allow?

After completing his Doctor of Physiotherapy at Bond University in 2016, Dr Adam Walker founded Gold Coast Knee Group in 2018— a specialist practice dedicated to the assessment and rehabilitation of knee conditions, with a concentrated focus on anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. He has since developed one of Australia's most focused clinical and research profiles in this area, completing a PhD titled Optimising ACL Reconstruction through Bond University (2019–2024). His doctoral research examined the barriers and facilitators that shape whether patients engage with, adhere to, and ultimately succeed in ACL rehabilitation — an area where the gap between clinical best practice and real-world outcomes remains significant.

Over approximately ten years in clinical practice, Adam has assessed and treated hundreds of ACL patients and conducted thousands of consultations for knee pain across a wide range of conditions, ages, and athletic backgrounds. That clinical volume — combined with seven peer-reviewed publications, active university teaching, and sustained collaboration with orthopaedic surgeons — gives him an unusual depth of perspective on what separates rehabilitation that achieves full return to sport from rehabilitation that falls short.

Adam currently holds three clinical leadership roles: Director and Head of Rehabilitation at Gold Coast Knee Group, Co-Director at Palm Beach Physio and Sports Rehab, and Co-Director at Bond Physiotherapy and Sports Medicine. He also teaches within the Bond University Doctor of Physiotherapy program.

Dr Walker's clinical practice and research are concentrated in the following areas:

  • Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rehabilitation — from acute injury through to return to sport and return to performance

  • ACL reconstruction recovery — post-surgical physiotherapy, progressive loading, strength benchmarking, and psychological readiness assessment

  • Barriers to rehabilitation adherence — identifying and addressing the psychological, logistical, and motivational factors that determine whether patients complete their rehabilitation

  • Return to sport assessment — objective, criterion-based testing to guide evidence-informed clearance decisions

  • Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) rehabilitation — post-surgical physiotherapy pathway design and optimisation

  • Patellofemoral pain, meniscal injury, and tendinopathy — conservative management of common knee conditions

  • Knee pain in active and athletic populations — across recreational athletes, elite performers, and youth sport participants
